Meet Amber Alexis
Can you tell everyone about yourself and the work you do?
I’m Amber aka Amb Lex aka Only Amb, a creative consultant from Detroit, MI. I am driven by helping brands ideate and discover. I like to think I am limitless in my creative endeavors which span from color and material design to marketing activations and everything in between. I have a brand, So Called, that I’ve been developing for some years. It’s about working through imposter syndrome, collaborating and creating things that are to express authentic emotions and stories.
What inspired the design you created for our collaboration?
The design I created was inspired by masculinity and the duality of nature. I wanted to create a pattern that had a lot of depth and movement but felt serene.
How do you like to approach the collaborative process?
I like to approach the collaborative process by thinking about who I am working with and how we can authentically unite in creation. Usually, that starts with a brainstorm or mood board. I don’t want to force things. This So Arte collab has been about a year in the making. We totally scratched the initial designs because we just weren’t passionate about them. Collaborating is definitely about divine timing.
"Stopping to smell the roses," often signifies taking a moment to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of life. How does this concept resonate with you personally, and how does it influence your creative process?
It’s about slowing down and appreciating the space you’re in. To me, it means creating beauty out of whatever situation or resources you have. There’s beauty right in front of you, it's just up to you to recognize it.
What’s one moment that seemed small at the time but later turned out to be a pivotal moment in your life?
When I co-founded a fashion organization in college, it didn’t seem like a big deal back then when I was a business student, but it really showed me where my passion and motivation lies. It opened me up to wearing many hats and ignited my spark for working with other creatives.
What do you hope people take away from experiencing our designs?
I hope the people embrace the whole project from design to marketing. Tay and I put ourselves into these scarves. I want people to feel an energy from the product itself and most importantly put that sh*t on.
What’s your reason to explore?
My reason to explore is to live a life where I tried all the things I wanted. I think it’s important to remain curious, seeking and finding. You never know what you may discover.
