A Day Not Learning is A Day Wasted
TBH I haven’t been as social as I’ve wanted to since moving to LA. It’s been a constant cycle of working all week and knocking out side projects on the weekends. I’m not complaining because I’ve been killing goals (*whispers* AND I ASKED FOR THIS) but after almost a year of routine I knew I needed to switch some things up. I want to build real connections with like-minded people, and there’s only so much networking I can do on social media.
It all started with The Industry Collective, founded by two dope Black women. They brought together a team of of young + poppin professionals to create this space — meant to build a community of people who want to follow their passions outside of the corporate world. The turn up was REAL lol but the energy in the room was even better. Everyone I met had their own goals outside of their full-time jobs and wanted to ultimately create their own paths. It’s so fulfilling to be in a space where everyone is open to meeting new people and talking about their biggest dreams with people they may have just met.
Biggest takeaway:
We are holding ourselves back a lot of the time. Stop being fearful and do the thing. You never know who else will connect with your story.
The ladies of More Juice are some of the hardest working people I know. Jasmine and Marissa had their first event in 2016 and since then it has grown into much more - a podcast, blog and ever-growing community.
For Summit 21 weekend they hosted the opening event in partnership with the team at 21 Ninety. Creative, mompreneru and celebrity MUA Felicia LaTour joined them on the stage for a live podcast - and let me tell you...GEMS💎 on top of GEMS.💎
Here’s a snippet:
Be mindful with how you talk to yourself. We have to be our biggest cheerleaders.
Collect your own data and track your journey. We can get caught up in trying to achieve the next thing feeling like we’re not doing enough. If we took the time to reflect we would be able to see how far we’ve come.
But that’s just the surface. Listen to the full podcast HERE for even more and follow them on Instagram to stay in the loop for the next event!
Art in Many Forms was like the cherry on top of an already fulfilling weekend. This event was created so WOC creators could speak about their experiences in the creative industry, why they went into business for themselves and how they build their own opportunities. There were several head nods, “YASSS” and “I feel seen” moments. My heart fluttered with inspiration to never stop believing. If you can see it, it can happen. All it takes is a perfect mixture of hard work and faith.
I have a full note with more lessons but a couple of my favorites were:
Start small - The small things you do everyday will accomplish the big goals.
Validation is for parking NOT you!
Share one thing you’ve learned so far this month in the comments! If you can’t think of anything, I have some content in the future with a few tools and practices I use to pull the most from each moment. What’s a life worth living if you’re not learning from the small things?
